מזה מספר שבועות אני מאיירת את הטור של רוני בר (לא המעצבת!) במגזין האינטרנטי Fashion Forward. רוני חיה ועובדת בפריס מזה מספר שנים והיא כותבת בכשרון מופלא על החיים האופנתיים בבירה הצרפתית על כל מה שמשתמע מכך מנקודת מבטה של מי שאינה ילידת המקום. עבורי ההזדמנות לאייר את הטור היא חוויה נהדרת מאחר ובניגוד לאיורים שאני יוצרת בלימודים המשמשים לרב כסקיצות הכנה לעיצוב הבגד עצמו כאן האיור הוא המטרה ולא האמצעי. כל איור אני מאותגרת מחדש, מנסה שלצייר משהו שעוד לא ציירתי, מנסה לעבוד בשיטה אחרת מזו בה עבדתי עד היום, לנסות טכניקות שאינן בהכרח מקובלות במסגרת הלימודים. באשר לתהליך העבודה - ראשית אני קוראת את הטור מספר פעמים, לוקחת קצת זמן להרהורים, מנסה לחשוב מה לאייר כך שהמילים יקבלו עוד איזה ערך קטן. אחר כך אני חושבת כיצד לאפיין את הדמות ואז אני ניגשת למלאכה בלי לדעת יותר מדי מה יצא - פשוט מתחילה. רב האיורים דורשים מספר נסיונות עד שאני מרוצה מהתוצאה שמתקבלת, לעתים תוך כדי העבודה אני משנה את הרעיון לאיור ולעתים את הטכניקה ולמעשה לומדת כל הזמן. על כל האיורים (מלבד הקולאז' עם הפפיונים) אני עובדת קודם כל באופן ידני, קווי המתאר נרקמים בעפרון ואחר כך בדף חדש ונקי שוב בעט פיילוט דק ושחור. הצביעה היא לעתים ידנית, בטושים או בצבעי מים ולעתים נעשית במחשב, כל שיטה ויתרונותיה.

It's been a few weeks since I've started illustrating for Roni Bar's (not the designer!) column at the online magazine Fashion Forward. Roni lives and works in Paris for several years, She writes with great talent about her fashionable experiences in the French city from the perspective of someone who isn't native. For me the opportunity to illustrate the column is a great experience since as opposed to the illustrations I create at school, which usually serve as preparatory sketches, here the illustrations are the actual goal rather than the means. Each drawing is a whole new challenge, every time I try to draw something I've never done before, work in another method or use a different technique than what I'm used to. As to the process - First I read the column several times, than I take some time for reflection, trying to think what to illustrate in order to add the words a small additional value. Later I think how to characterize the figure and afterwards I get to work - without knowing what would be the outcome.
Most of the illustrations require several attempts until I am satisfied with the results obtained, sometimes during the process I change the idea of the illustration and sometimes I realize the technique isn't the right one and in fact I'm learning all the time. All the illustrations (except for the collage with the bows) were made initially with pencils and then once again with a black thin pilot pen. Later I do the painting, with Photoshop or manually with markers or watercolors, Each method and it's advantages.
