Just wanted to share a few pics from my trip in April!

I remember reading something someone said a year or two ago (super-specific, I know). Basically, the gist was that you shouldn't leave your "nice" clothes/shoes/bag/whatever for a special occasion, because then you'll end up never/rarely wearing it, even though you really love it.

I totally agree with this idea. I mean, clearly, a floor-length ball gown isn't appropriate for class... but maybe you should wear that blouse you're "saving" for a nice dinner to class instead.

It's a hard habit to break out of, but one that is ultimately worth it, I think.

Another benefit of not saving your things is that you'll feel awesome. Seriously! You put on that skirt you've been saving and you'll be thinking, "Damn, I look good" all day. It's the perfect pick-me-up, especially if you're having a crappy day*.

What do you guys think? Do you think some pieces of clothing should definitely be saved for special occasions? Or do you not care?

* It's not quite the same thing, but when I have spent a few days in a row studying or writing papers, I get to a  point where I can't lounge in sweats anymore, so I put on some makeup and get dressed (leggings or jeans, though. I don't mean I get dressed up)... and head back to the books. It makes it a little more bearable, I swear!

Regardless of whether you shop there, I highly recommend ASOS magazine. The layouts are lovely (can't ever go wrong with a collage), I love their choice of font (most of the time, anyway), not to mention the clothes.

I mean the dog, not me. Actually, my dog looks like a demon in this picture, so never mind. And I'm making a weird face, haha!

You can't really see what I was wearing, but it was just one of those military/utility jackets and my Chloe-looking boots (that are really uncomfortable). Casual Fridays are the business.

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic tonight... maybe it's because I'm watching An Education and looking at pictures of The Hoxton via PinkBow? Anyway, I miss London so much. I really, really do.

What do you guys do when you're sick? Unfortunately, I have to go to class today, but I've already got a plan formulated:

1. Skip chorus practice, bc I can only breathe through one nostril, and that kinda gets in the way of singing
2. Drive to the local video game store and buy the newest Sims 3 expansion
3. Crank out a paper (that was due yesterday, eek!)
4. Play video games all night
5. Go to bed

In between all that, I will be drinking lots of tea and taking some cold medicine. Good times!

High fashion Frankenstein totally has his finger on the pulse... even if he technically didn't have one but an hour ago. Marc Jacob bolt stud earrings (get it? get it?) and creepers, because Frankie totally originated the chunky soles look.

This is one of my favorites... I put a weird amount of thought into this one. See that silver bar on the edge that says "Rub Away"? Well, that's a bar you use after you've touched garlic to get the smell off of your hands -- and we all know vampires hate garlic, right? I included the ring because it reminds me of those ugly ass rings the Salvatores wear on The Vampire Diaries. There's even a little story behind the McQueen bag too. Obviously, you can tell from the outfit that this Dracula's about to have a night out on the town. But if you've read Dracula, you may remember that the real story starts when he lands in London to wreak havoc on the Harkers' lives. So my Dracula carries a McQueen bag with the British flag on it in the hopes of blending in by showing some patriotism. Clever vampire, huh?

Last but not least (this is actually my favorite set... I'd totally wear this), our woodsy Wolfman is totally ready to... chase people through the woods? It seems to me that werewolves spend inordinate amounts of time in the woods, so why not dress the part? Of course, there's also plenty of claw jewelry. The better to tear you apart with, my dear... Awooooooo! (haha, I'm such a dork.)

I had a pretty shite day last Tuesday, and wearing these was pretty much the only good part of it. I was already in a bad mood when I left for school, then I had an exam that was completely different from what the professor said it'd be... not good. But life goes on, and I'm feeling better now.

MAC x Rodarte: Update

I just read this morning, via New York Magazine's Cut Blog, that MAC has decided not to ship the Rodarte line, inspired by Juarez, Mexico.


As I mentioned before, there has been a lot of backlash on the internet due to the controversial nature of the Mulleavy sisters' source of inspiration. Now, MAC has released a statement that they will not release the collection, out of respect for the citizens of Juarez, and really, out of respect for all people. They will still, however, donate all projected global proceeds to groups that work to protect the women of Juarez.


Though it's unfortunate that this whole debacle occurred, I'm glad that something good is coming out of this. (And... I've been holding back from saying this because I didn't want to take away from this discussion, but... the collection was pretty ugly/unwearable.) Anyway, from the statement MAC released, it seems that they are still researching the groups that exist, so they know where to send their donations.


In the future, I would really love to see an update on what happens with the money they donate. Of course, MAC will need to make sure that, if they do a press release on how their donation was used, it doesn't come across as, "Look at us! We did great things!" as opposed to contrite, yet glad that they could help in some way. Regardless, we'll see.
