Big Pocket Pants (tutorial)

Wear these for those special occasions…

or just for FUN!!

 

Here we go with the Big Pocket Pants tutorial

items needed:

                                                  -sewing machine

                                                  -approx. 1/2 yard fabric or less (depending on the size you make) & matching thread

                                                  -elastic for waistband

 

Cut your pants from your material. I used a pair of pants that Beckham currently wears. I also made the legs a little wider, you can choose how you want them to look. Make sure you cut 4 pieces~ 2 for the front/ and 2 for the back. You will also want the waist taller then normal so you have enough to fold over and make the waistband.

Sew butt seam on both the front and back pieces. So now you have two pieces that actually look like pants.

This is what the two sections should look like once you sew them together, don’t forget to serge or zig zag to keep the fabric from fraying.

Now that we have the main pant put together we need to make the pockets.

Let’s make the FRONT pockets first.. cut 4 of these pockets.

The next step is to make the pocket by sewing 2 pieces together. As you can see in the picture below you only sew THREE sides.

NOT all four sides.

Flip the pocket right side out and iron flat.

After you iron flat TOP STITCH just the top ‘curve’ section.

This is the part of the pocket that your hand goes into. The left side of this pocket will go directly into the side seam of your pants.

Now lets make the BACK POCKETS.. It’s a different shape of pocket, but we use the same steps.

                                        Cut 4 pieces.

Place two pieces right sides together and stitch around 3 sides, leaving the top ‘flat piece’ open.

Flip right side out/iron flat/ top stitch only top ‘flat’ part of pocket

WOW…we are getting close. Those pockets take a lot of time, but are you still with me?!?

Lets sew them onto the pants now!

FRONT POCKETS first.. Pin the pocket with the ‘curved’ section toward the top of the pant.

Pin pocket in place

(remember you still need to fold the waistband down, so don’t place the pockets too high)

Top stitch pocket in place by starting at the point of the top ‘curved’ section, continue down the pocket, and back to the outside seam

Does that make sense to all?!?

Now onto the BACK POCKETS..

Place on the back section where you want

(yes this picture was actually taken AFTER I sewed everything together..your pants won’t look like this just yet)

Once you have pinned in place sew 3 side (MAKE SURE YOU DON’T SEW THE TOP /straight section CLOSED)

Top/straight section should already have a top stitch done on it, this might help you remember to not sew it a second time.

Let’s finish this and put them on that cute child…..

Put front and back pant piece, right sides together.

Sew down each side of the pants, then through the crotch/inside leg.

Serge, zig zag, (or leave raw if need be)

turn pants right side out. Slightly cut the front of the waist a little lower then the back of the waist.

Then serge around, zig zag, or leave raw

Fold over waist band to make casing for the elastic.

Stitch around casing leaving a small opening to thread your elastic through.

Attach you elastic to a safety pin. Thread through your casing. Once the elastic meets up stitch it together, and top stitch your casing closed.

Serge or zig zag the bottom of your pants

Fold up and top stitch.

(if you leave raw, fold leg up 1/4 inch first then fold a second time so your raw edge is cased in.

What do you guys do when you're sick? Unfortunately, I have to go to class today, but I've already got a plan formulated:

1. Skip chorus practice, bc I can only breathe through one nostril, and that kinda gets in the way of singing
2. Drive to the local video game store and buy the newest Sims 3 expansion
3. Crank out a paper (that was due yesterday, eek!)
4. Play video games all night
5. Go to bed

In between all that, I will be drinking lots of tea and taking some cold medicine. Good times!

how did you come up with the name of your blog We love our fringes. When something goes wrong with it, like when the stylist cuts it wrong or something, we really can’t function well and everything gets affected. This isn’t exaggeration. We’re obsessed with our bangs. So we came up with Big Bangs Theory. Thinking of a name for the blog took us a year!

when where you introduced to fashion We can’t remember. We just found ourselves browsing through Lookbook, Chictopia, and different fashion blogs like Le Blog de Betty, Little Miss Dress Up, Fashion Ate the World, and a whole lot more. We’re very much inspired by the internet’s fashion battalion. how do you describe your style Christine: I really can’t describe my style. I’d say I just wear what I’m comfortable wearing on a certain day, event, place or weather. I really like florals and skirts though. I like looking like I’m going to a picnic on a hot summer day. Camille: I don't have a style. That's why I never go out of style. Haha! Kidding! My style is hard to describe. It's simple and it changes according to my mood. I just wear what I like. I usually tend to mismatch pieces but sometimes I end up wearing just a pair of shorts, loose shirt, sneakers, and lots of bracelets.
what made you start a fashion blog We are online everyday. We browse through different fashion sites and blogs. And we are greatly inspired by how people express themselves through fashion. We also wanted to do the same thing. And we wanted to do something together so we came up with Big Bangs Theory! what do you think you bring to the fashion blog world Wow, hard question! We don't really know. Our blog is just not about fashion, it's about anything and everything under the sun. We just bring ourselves and show a little bit of our enthusiasm and appreciation for art, photography and fashion.
how is your style different than everyone else Well, our style is quite different as we are influenced by many different angles of life, from art to music, to photography to anything else we see that tingles our senses. Our style depends on the ideas we get from our daily inspirations. We get inspired by them and incorporate them with how we feel or what we want to be like on a certain day. who is your inspiration Christine: I love Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Alexa Chung, Nicole Richie and Vanessa Hudgens. Camille: Agyness Deyn! It's inspiring how she can pull off any outfit. I also love Alexa Chung, Katy Perry and Rachel Bilson. what impression do you want to leave on the people that visits your blog We want people to see the world as we see it. We’re really not good with words so we try to work more with photos and let them do the talking. We want to show them that fashion is not all about following trends, it's all about wearing what you're comfortable with and expressing yourself.
who is your favorite designer Christine: My favorite designer would be Alexander McQueen. I love how Alexander McQueen’s designs are so adventurous, dreamy and boundless. I mean, before him, I don’t think anyone else would have ever thought of the Armadillo shoes! Camille: I like Betsey Johnson & Marc Jacobs! What piece is a most have in your closet Christine: My closet is never complete without a white v-neck shirt and boyfriend jeans. Without those, I don’t think I’ll ever survive school during hell death weeks (aka midterms and finals). Camille: Loose shirts and demin shorts. Hahaha!
